Do it to Julia

Yellow Dog's first client and cornerstone artist, be prepared to hear the name Do it to Julia a lot in 2009! Do it to Julia, the powerful indie-folk rock band is taking North Carolina by storm. Their sound is best described as ranging from driving intensity to uplifting, Appalachian warmth. Named after a quote from the George Orwell book "1984", Do it to Julia is a hit among Appalachian State University students and its broad appeal is extending beyond to new audiences. The band has recently performed with artists such as Sam Bush, Sister Hazel, Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, Tim Reynolds, and Jerry Douglas. Residing in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains in Boone, North Carolina, Do it to Julia is on the up and up. They consist of five members; Ryan Okeefe-vocals and guitar, Halli Anderson-vocals and violin, Matt Rossino-bass, Alex McWalters-drums, and Steve Bush- lead guitar and vocals. Despite only playing together for a little over a year, they've already emerged as the most exciting and most demanded show to see out of western North Carolina. Do it to Julia was featured as the Premier Local Artist at the groundbreaking Music on the Mountain Festival August 23rd, in Boone, NC. Their debut album, Archie Carroll can be bought on iTunes, CDbaby, and several physical locations around western North Carolina. Do it to Julia

Uncle Mountain

Uncle Mountain is a rock quintet from western North Carolina. They are characterized by song driven music with explorative and theatrical arrangements drawing influences from artists like Paul Simon, Wilco, The Beatles, and a variety of world music. Since the release of their first LP "Salt Sweet and Memory Feet," Uncle Mountain has performed across North Carolina for concerts and festivals such as Music on the Mountain in Boone, the Mosaic Arts and Music Festival in Asheboro, and the Sunday in the Park concert series in Greenville.

Tracks from this album have received attention from a variety of people in the arts.  They are on regular rotation at local and regional radio stations like the acclaimed WNCW in western North Carolina.  The raucous "Peace of Mind" is featured in the soundtrack and opening sequence of the independent film "The Graduates," directed by New York's Ryan Gielen, winner of the 2008 "Rhode Island International Film Festival Director Discovery Award." Most recently, the seasoned and regionally praised choreographer Tommi Galaska choreographed "Salt Sweet and Memory Feet" in its entirety to create "Moonlight and Molasses," a dance production for East Carolina University.

Ascella Vega

In 2005, old friends assembled in Raleigh, NC with indie/classic rock aspirations of achieving music fame.  Now, four years later, the band has matured into a seasoned Rock ‘n Roll act ready to take their music out of the Triangle and to the rest of the Southeast.

Adam Newson (vocals/keyboards), Gray Henderson (guitar/vocals), Reaves Greer (drums/percussion), and Mark Voller (bass) make up the fun-loving Alternative Rock act ASCELLA VEGA.  Ascella Vega has spent the last four years taking their sound from that of a talented college band to a diverse rock ‘n roll act that has the potential to pack any venue.

All of the members attended to Needham Broughton High School together in Raleigh, NC and stayed nearby for college.  During their college years, they made a name around the Triangle as a prominent area band competing (and winning) local battle of the bands competitions.  They developed a dedicated fan base in the Raleigh/Durham area that was willing to follow them wherever they played.  With their ever-growing fan base craving more original music, ASCELLA VEGA decided it was time to take their band to the next level.

In March 2008, they released their first EP, "Put It In Motion."  In July 2008, they were listed as the Editor's Pick and Choice Cut on www.indie-music.com.  The diversity of their matured sound could be best described by Reed Turchi from the Vinyl Press: "Their sound ranges from heavy chorded-out rock as in the chorus of the title track "Put It in Motion" and introduction of "House On a Hill", to the near blues/rock of "Contradiction", to the bright and clear piano intro and vocal harmonies of "Bright Future."

Ascella Vega is riding a wave of momentum following their headlining performances at Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC on September 4, 2008 and in Memorial Hall at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on February 7, 2009.  The Lincoln Theatre show brought out over 500 people and then the riveting Memorial Hall performance included a full set with a horn section and a diverse set of music that had the crowd of nearly 700 people rocking away to the tunes of Ascella Vega.

The future is as bright as the stars Ascella and Vega, especially with the group freshly graduated from college and now giving their full dedication to perfecting their art.  You can check them out online at www.ascellavega.com

The Moderate

In 2007, DC-based The Moderate was formed by North Carolina natives and childhood friends singer/guitarist Jim Dempsey and drummer Drew Marks. Oozing with talent and brimful of potential, The Moderate favors strong narrative storytelling, sharp rhythms and intricate guitar play. Marks and bassist Tracy Epperson lay down bold and melodic pulses, allowing Dempsey and multi-instrumentalist Ian Burke to create dizzyingly pleasant mixtures of harmony and electricity. In late 2009 the quartet released The Rest Is Up To You, a debut album that perfectly captures songs that were always meant for the stage. With influences ranging from guitar pioneers Built To Spill to the rollicking and countrified sounds of southern rock, The Moderate never fails to pique an audience’s interest.
